Am I really as neurotic as I feel?

About me

Blogger:
I'm a jumble of neuroses--some good, some bad, some just plain weird. I love the Iowa Hawkeyes. I'm intensely loyal to my friends. I would love to earn a living by traveling around the world taking pictures. It's a difficult journey to the center of my soul. Several have tried, none have succeeded, and a few have nearly exhausted themselves in the process. I'm not an open book, but sometimes I read like one. I like dogs.

My aunt was doing pretty well over the weekend...talking, remembering, even eating a little bit.  Almost everybody went home.  And now she has another aneurysm, which puts her at 4 I think.  So the doctors put her back into a coma.  What they'll do next, or what will happen next...who knows.

Randomness

I'm watching an SNL rerun because Maroon 5 is the musical guest.  I Maroon 5...especially Adam, the lead singer.  He's a little skinny for my tastes, but he's still cuuuute...I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers.  ;-)

I got to see Lance Armstrong and Kirk Ferentz yesterday.  That was lovely (especially because I got to talk with/touch Kirk every so briefly).  Lance said he'd be riding all of RAGBRAI next year.  B and I were already planning on riding, so this just gives us more motivation to do so.  I just really hope my knees hold up.  I'll probably get health insurance, and a cortisone shot or two will potentially be in the future (or at least I'll beg for them mid-July next year so I can make it through).  I also got to see my friend J, who I haven't seen in a while...not since D came back from Italy.  It was so good to see him.

D, A, and I went to the pool yesterday...I became a waterslide whore.  I waterslides.  You know in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, when Napoleon goes to Waterloo and becomes obsessed with the waterslides...that's me when I'm around waterslides.  I even became a little girl's BFF for the hour while discussing the waterslides.

Dad got an update on my aunt.  He talked to one of my other aunts who is down at the hospital.  She's awake and knows what's going on, remembers her headache and first visits to the hospital (she went in with a bad headache once and then went back again later).  They think she actually had (has?) 3 aneurysms...not the bursting kind, though, otherwise she wouldn't even be alive.  She's not up and moving around, but I guess she's still doing well, all things considered.  She may even get transferred up here, but that might not be for a month or so depending on how rehab goes.

I think I'll be getting a parakeet soon.  We used to have some growing up, and they're such funny creatures.  I really want a dog, but with my travels and stuff, the puppy would likely not get the attention it deserves.  Keets can be trained to do tricks if you work with them when they're babies, so I'm going to have to get a little one.

It's been really hot.

Just talked to my mom.  My aunt is in a drug-induced coma, they still haven't done (and might not do) surgery on the aneurysm, and apparently the right side of her brain is dead.  They might stop some of the drugs and let her wake up to see how she is...but I'm pretty sure none of us are expecting much.  Hoping, yes, but not expecting.  I just saw her a couple months ago.  Double bah.

Life has been going along swimmingly...too swimmingly, I remember thinking on my drive up from Florida.  Sure enough.  Mom called today and said my aunt was life-flighted to a hospital with a brain aneurysm.  It hasn't burst, but it is leaking.  They have a shunt in her head.  She's doing about as well as can be considered, though, and she talked to at least one of my cousins last night on the phone.  Two of my cousins are flying down today, one drove over last night or this morning, and the fourth is on RAGBRAI and has probably been reached by now.

She really doesn't deserve this.  Not like anybody does, but she lost an eye to cancer several years ago and has had cancerous nodes in her lungs for a few years now.  She hasn't had lots of energy, but she still insists on going to work at least 20 hours each week to stay busy.

Bah.

I'm home!  What a trip!  Cannonball14 doesn't have dark hair as I expected for some reason.  I put on about 3500 miles, I think, but I haven't done the final tally for anything yet.  I'm pooped!  Great times...can't wait to do it again.  :-)

Greetings from Columbus!

That's all...I just wanted to say hi and take advantage of the free wireless internet at the hotel.  Arlington/DC is on deck for tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning.  JustMe and Arlene--be prepared!  If you see a girl wearing a Hawkeye shirt, looking slightly lost and confused but trying not to show it...that'd be me.  :-)

San Diego in pictures

We went to the Padres game; we didn't get there until the top of hte 6th inning, since our flight into SD was delayed.  The cheapest available tickets were 18 bucks, so we had lunch and then snuck in.

We caught most of the last inning.  Then we went to La Jolla Beach.

Monday consisted of going down to Tijuana and getting lost and confused.  A few times.  But we managed to get down to El Centro and do a bit of shopping and meandering.  Here's the Hard Rock Cafe Tijuana.

The arch thingy that we used as a marker/destination point ("Hey, let's try to get back to that arch thingy, maybe there's a market area there!").

After experiencing our entrance ramp being blocked off, being more confused, seeing a Giant Jesus statue, saying "no thanks" to the vendors in the street (except for the churro and corn/cerrano vendors), and waiting in traffic for 3+ hours, we finally got back into the states and, of course, headed to the beach.  Mission Beach this time.

Tuesday we went to San Diego Zoo!  Yay zoo!

We dashed back to the hotel and got ready for the wedding.  It was beautiful!!  It was held at the groom's parents' house, and they did a great job of getting everything ready.  Their house was in the Chula Vista/Bonito area, up in the hills.  We managed to see some fireworks, thank goodness!  I'd be upset if I missed fireworks.

I managed to get an earlier flight into town, and my luggage made it early too, so I was happy about that.  It was a fantastic trip.  Never pass up a chance to travel!

I laughed heartily at these two Dilberts...

...because who doesn't know people like this?

San Diego frigging rocks!  The Mexican food is awesome (I even ate chunks of salsa!!  Me!!  Eating chunks of tomatoes and onions!!).  We got lost in Tijuana.  I danced like a fool at the wedding reception.  I did a shot of Jaeger (god, that stuff is horrible!) at the reception too.  The beaches were gorgeous.  The zoo was great (I still think Omaha's is better, though).  Salt Lake City is gorgeous...well, the mountains and the lake are (that's all I saw from the airport).  I'm pooped, so I'll try to write more tomorrow or sometime.  Time to plan the great driving adventure (and completely ignore gas prices)!  Wahoo!!

I'm up before the butt crack of dawn to get to our flight on time.  At least I'll have a window seat on the long flight, so I'll be able to sleep...for a little while...if I'm lucky.

I found a pair of sunglasses under the seat of my car a week and a half ago.  I thought they were my dad's, but I thought wrong.  I have no idea who they belong to.  Weird.
